Gorm Askjær Trio feat. Joaniquet/Højager (DK/ES)
Cesar Joaniquet (sax), Malthe Volfing Højager (vc), Gorm Askjær (g), Jens Mikkel Madsen (b), Thomas Eiler (drm)
Melodic and adventurous chamber jazz
Last year, Gorm Askjær Trio released the acclaimed debut album Blodmånen Og Dig, which was named Album of the Week on P8 Jazz and described by JazzNyt as a solid album with depth and breadth enough to last for a very long time.
The trio stands for a modern, versatile jazz expression that draws inspiration from, among others, Bill Frisell. Having known each other for a long time, the three musicians have established a special ensemble with enough room for improvisation and experiments within the simple framework of the compositions.
For this concert, the usual trio, which in addition to the conductor consists of Jens Mikkel Madsen (I Think You’re Awesome, Kasper Staub Trio) and Thomas Eiler (SVIN), is expanded with two additional musicians
First, there is the resident Spanish saxophonist Cesar Joaniquet, who with his personal tone has made a name for himself both with his own projects and as a permanent member of the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra.
As the last man in the final quintet, we find the classic cellist Malthe Volfing Højager.
Thus, the stage is set for a unique and exciting evening with newly written chamber jazz.
