Ruh Duo feat. Jacinta Madsen (DK/SY)
Maher Mahmoud (oud), Mette Marie J. Ørnstrup (voc, perc), Jacinta Madsen (art)
Ottoman-Syrian tradition meets new composition and free improvisation
It all takes place in a concert dedicated to being human. With music created for being together and for deep reflection.
This is music for the small details with the depth of microtonality, where the pauses carry as much weight as the blatantly soft.
The music is embodied by visual artist Jacinta Madsen with canvas and ink.
Oudist Maher Mahmoud is an internationally acclaimed musician and composer who moves in the realm between tradition and composition. As a musician, he has a diverse range, having opened Orange Scene at Roskilde Festival with Damon Albarn, played with Blood Sweat Drum + Bass bigband, and The Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra.
Vocalist and percussionist Mette Marie Ørnstrup has explored many musical frontiers, both as an improviser, performer, and global musician. She has traveled the world with her music and has, among other things, lived in Istanbul for a year and a half, where she studied classical Ottoman music and sang at the conservatory.
With one leg in free improvisation and world music, Mette Marie Ørnstrup offers a wide range of musical landscapes and structures.
Together, the two musicians make up Ruh Duo.
Jacinta Madsen is a performing artist and storyteller with a studio at Sydhavnen in Aarhus. Jacinta Madsen works with visual improvisation and finds inspiration by exploring the intersection of different genres and forms of expression.
