Duo jazz from the highest level

Lithuanian reeds player Liudas Mockunas, and Danish percussionist, Christian Windfeld, has since their first meeting in Estonia in 2013 had a sparkling musical connection.

In their completely improvised performances they travel far and wide from the raging, energetic and trance-like moments to the minimalistic, reduced, and almost romantic ones. Their music draws on influences from European improvised music, free jazz, contemporary classical music and folklore.

Both players have extensive solo careers and their individual, minutious research into their instruments lifts this duo to the next level. The duo has performed at venues and festivals in Denmark, Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, and Czech Republic. 

Liudas Mockunas has been active on the European Jazz scene as a solo performer and co-leader of bands Pasborg - Mockunas Toxikum, Saga Quartet, Red Planet, Kablys, duos with Marc Ducret, Ryoji Hojito, and Vladimir Tarasov. He is a member of Pasborg’s Odessa 5, Vladimir Tarasov Trio, Copenhagen Art Ensemble, the Lithuanian New Music ensemble Gaida.

The creative interests of Liudas Mockūnas are focused on improvised music and experimental jazz stage.

In 2004 Liudas Mockunas and Stefan Pasborg band Toxikum reiceved the Danish Music Award for there album Toxikum. Liudaa Mockunas also has received several other prizes.

Christian Windfeld lives in Aarhus, and frequently tours the world as a snare drum soloist and with a variety of groups. Christian Windfeld has collaborated on over 40 record-releases world wide with various groups including, Flamingo, Ellipsis, FØRSTEPERSONENTAL, Kolonihaven Unikum and Admiral Awesome.

In 2015 he received the 2 year long, highly esteemed, grant “The young Elite” from the Danish Arts Council.
