Blues singer in jazz land

This afternoon features none other than American-born singer James Loveless, arguably one of the country's very best blues singers.

In this special concert, he crosses over into jazz country with interpretations of well-known jazz classics in the company of some of Denmark's most acclaimed jazz musicians.

James Loveless is best known as the frontman of Aarhus-based Shades of Blue, who celebrated their 30th anniversary last year. Over the years, the band has toured Denmark extensively, and Shades of Blue's unique concerts were rewarded last year with a Danish Music Award for best live band on the blues scene.

Although the blues roots never deny themselves in James Loveless' singing, he has also taken a liking to jazz earlier in his career. For a number of years, he was a regular soloist in Klüvers Big Band and toured with the big band in Scandinavia and Russia. In recent years, he has also appeared on stage with his son Shaka Loveless.

Uffe Steen is one of the best and most unique guitarists. He is known for a very special and wild technique where he turns the guitar in the opposite direction of everyone else. Throughout his long career, he has played with a large number of renowned jazz and blues acts, become known for his empathetic and infectious playing, and has achieved international recognition with his CDs featuring Adam Nussbaum on drums.

Peter Vuust is a professor at Aarhus University and the Royal Academy of Music, director of the Center for Music in the Brain, and one of the country's most sought-after sidemen. He is known for his groovy and responsive backing as well as extremely melodious solo playing. He has seven album releases under his belt as a composer and bassist. Peter has also been nominated for a DMA for the CD September Song.

Mikkel Vuust is a well-playing drummer, who has participated in several different band constellations and played with names like Jakob Fisher, Uffe Steen, Henrik Gunde, and Sinne Eeg. In April, he released the album Further to Fly with the family band 5xVuust. Mikkel is currently studying at the Manhattan School of Music in New York.
