Thomas Sejthen Trio (DK)
Mads Ole Erhardsen (sax, b-cl), Thomas Sejthen (b), Jesper Bo Knudsen (drm)
A modern version of the "classic" jazz trio
Formed in 2018, Thomas Sejthen Trio specializes in minimalist expression and intense ensemble playing.
All compositions are by Thomas Sejthen, taking inspiration from the quirky universe of Thelonious Monk and the traditional jazz trio sound. Thoughtful ballads, with calm and melancholic soundscapes, merge into one, all played with presence and nerve.
For many years, Thomas Sejthen has been a regular bass player in Uffe Steen Trio, Indra, Admiral Awesome, and Simon Eskildsen Trio, as well as having played with other Danish and international jazz stars.
The critically acclaimed debut album from 2019 – with the same name as the trio – is available on various streaming services. Reviewers wrote:
"The music – though inspired by the more advanced side of jazz – is not at all forbidding or inaccessible. This release will often find its way to the table in the future."
"Thomas Sejthen plays with a special concentration and intensity. He is steady, reliable, and clear. There is no playing with flowery bass tones. He plays what is necessary, and when he does, he expresses much more than most do with twice as much."
