Edith Kvartet - Anna Kruse (DK/SE)
Anna Kruse (voc), Fredrik Lundin (fl, sax), Nicholas Kingo (p, sav, acc), Jeppe Holst (g)
A poetic, warm, and definitely rain-free evening in the company of the Edith Quartet
Anna Kruse has scored the powerful, existential, life-affirming poems of Edith Södergran, one of Sweden's great poets.
Anna Kruse interprets the texts together with Nicholas Kingo on piano, saw, and proud accordion. Jeppe Holst plays every stringed instrument available. Fredrik Lundin blends into the soundscape with his flutes and saxophones. With warmth and a twinkle in her eye, Anna sings all the favorites from her four albums, all of which have received very good reviews.
The music is somewhere between jazz and Swedish folk songs, and Anna sings in her beautiful Swedish language and talks about Edith Sødergran in Danish between the songs.
Her latest album Barndomsträd, released in 2021, has garnered many accolades and was recorded with Aarhus' own string quartet Who Killed Bambi. The sound is Nordic, the lyrics take center stage, and sometimes it roars and soars towards the summer sky.
