Øyunn feat. Kati Brien (NO/DE/DK)

22:00

Øyunn (voc, rap, drm, comp), Kati Brien (sax, cl, g, effects, voc), Jens Mikkel (b, voc), Kasper Staub (prophet, p, effects, voc)

Terrific ensemble and pop improvisation

Experience Øyunn along with Aarhus Jazz Orchestra saxophonist Kati Brien as they make Musikhuset swing.

Øyunn is the stage name of Norwegian drummer Siv Øyunn Kjenstad, who lives in Denmark.

Her honest approach to songwriting and the band's distinctive sound underpins the tracks where her singing can go from airy and tight to whaling and rapping.

Straightforward lyrics about loneliness, relationships, confidence, support, and hope are delivered with great musical flair.

The music is dynamic and full of contrasts – hard-hitting grooves with effect-clad vocals are replaced by quiet and heartfelt sections. She makes songs with a distinctly poppy tonality that includes some unexpected harmonic turns and chord extensions.

She has spent a lot of time in the studio over the past few years with her band and good friends, Kasper Staub on synth and Jens Mikkel Madsen on bass, releasing the single Reach Out with a music video directed by Martin Skovbjerg (Av Av Av).

The band has its own sound – Kasper playing melodically with both open and analog synth sounds, which are always in motion. Jens Mikkel with bold bass playing as well as a nice and steady beat. And Øyunn who is laidback and groovy with crisp drums and versatile and expressive vocals.

This spring, they were on a support tour for Lucky Lo, but it didn't stop in Aarhus. They're doing something about that now with a very special concert and a new collaboration for the occasion – with the talented multi-instrumentalist Kati Brien.

With a broad background both as a jazz musician in Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and as a songwriter and vocalist with her own material, she is a versatile and creative musician who will bring something fresh and different to the music.
