A Jazzy Play on Groovy Beats and Poppy Melodies
Koshi Waza is an Aarhus-based quartet that seeks to combine groovy beats with poppy melodies in playful instrumental jazz music.
The band takes its name from a series of throwing techniques in judo, all of which involve the use of the hips – hips that can also be used when being hit by the music. Like mushin in judo, Koshi Waza provides an obvious opportunity for you to forget yourself a little and get absorbed in the moment.
The band was founded in 2018 by Michael Aachmann, who draws inspiration from artists such as Bob Reynolds, Snarky Puppy, Butcher Brown, RH-Factor, and Moonchild.
The band's collaborative compositional process ensures an overall musical expression, which is clearly heard in their sound. A high level of musicianship combined with a playful approach to music ensures that the hard grooves and catchy melodies reach beyond the edge of the stage and draw the listener into an interesting and challenging universe.
The band began recording 10 self-composed songs in March 2023 with the intention of releasing a debut album in late summer 2023.
