An Exciting Musical Encounter Across Different Cultures

HILJAA represents three artists with very different cultural backgrounds.

Catarina Neves Ricci is a Portuguese dance theater and film director who has spent a decade making a name for herself as a multimedia artist on the international stage. Most recently, she was successful with the performative dance production MIKA at Musiikkitalo in Helsinki. Catarina has also produced visuals and films for the Danish group Efterklang.

Karin Mäkiranta is a Finnish singer, guitarist, and songwriter. She is based in the Finnish capital Helsinki. In addition to being part of Catarina Ricci's latest work, she has made a name for herself on the Finnish music scene with her own project Karin.

Johannes Berg is a Danish drummer and composer based in Aarhus. He has studied in several countries, including Finland, where he met Karin Mäkiranta in 2019. Johannes is an active and versatile musician who has managed to make a name for himself on the Danish and international improvisation scene.

The three artists have joined forces to create a joint sound installation work that aims to communicate Nordic nature and culture. The group will meet in June on Fanø, where they will write music inspired by the nature around the Wadden Sea and create an exclusive piece for this evening.
