The Silk Road with New Spices

Ipek Yolu is the Turkish name for the Silk Road that connected East and West.

The band first came together around a jam session that lasted a full three hours. It didn't take them long to realize they were onto something special.

Throughout its lifetime, Ipek Yolu has made a name for itself on the Danish music scene with concerts at venues and festivals in Denmark and abroad. These include SPOT Festival, Alice Cph, Atlas and Radar in Aarhus, Altonale in Hamburg, Foire du Valais festival in Switzerland, and not least an extremely successful concert at Roskilde Festival with top reviews. In 2020, the band was nominated for roots live act of the year at the Danish Music Awards Roots. Rolling Stone also gave the band's debut album four out of five stars.

The Silk Road now has new spices and ingredients in the form of new members: Frederik Emil Bülow, who is known from the jazz scene in Aarhus and won a Danish Music Award in 2014 with his band Bangin' Bülows Nice Jazz Quartet. Malthe Jepsen won the Aarhus Jazz Talent Award in 2021.

Ipek Yolu currently consists of Orhan Özgur (saz), Olaf Brinch (bass), Frederik Emil Bülow (drums), and Malthe Jepsen (keys). These musicians have played in bands as diverse as Hudna, Sorten Muld, Junglelyd, Abekejser, Clapper Music, and AddisAbabaBand, and it shows.

The music has something for both body and mind and is guaranteed to get the dance floor going as dance-friendly grooves mix with catchy saz melodies and searing synthesizer solos. Ipek Yolu is currently working on a new album with this sound expected to be released in the spring of 2024.

The band is now adapting its proven back catalog to a new context of Afro, jazz, hip-hop, and psychedelic music from Anatolia. The sound is more funky and swinging than ever before, making for a truly exceptional live experience.
