A Very Special Evening in the Name of Jazz

That you can be sure of when Øst for Paradis shows the documentary film Suite Dilation about the Danish trumpet player Kasper Tranberg.

The film will be followed by an artist talk with Tranberg and the film's director Mike Højgaard. Finally, you can experience an extraordinary live solo concert in the cinema.

About the musician

For more than two decades, trumpet player, cornetist, composer and bandleader Kasper Tranberg has been a striking artist on the domestic and international music scene.

His extensive resume shows an eager and open approach to music, and it has brought him into several bands and constellations where his heartfelt playing has attracted attention.

Kasper Tranberg is a member of leading bands in Europe and Japan. He has released 10 albums of his own and performed and recorded with Marc Ducret, Tyshawn Sorey, Jesper Zeuthen, Jacob Anderskov, and Tim Berne, and released two albums with Yusef Lateef.

In the naked solo format, Tranberg works with the essence of his sound and melodic improvisations in the compositions that form the basis of the Suite Dilation trilogy (the releases Straw Boss for sextet, Terzet with his regular trio, and the solo album Suite Dilation).

Anchored in his personal sound is a vision of developing a deep dialog with his instrument, the composed material, and the improvisational instinct.

About the film

Filmmaker Mike Højgaard follows Kasper's exotic journey – from the bustling streets of Tokyo and the tranquility of Japanese spirituality to Kasper's upbringing on Lolland and to where he is today – recording his solo trumpet album in Copenhagen.

It is now time to complete his trilogy: Suite Dilation with one last album: the solo trumpet album.

It is a film about how an artist finds himself after an already long career – in the wake of the challenging loneliness, the solo recording process, and the need to boil down his philosophy on music.

His music, his tones, his compositions, his tempos and structures – his perceptions, hopes, and dreams.
