Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and Musikhuset sets this year's jazz festival in motion with international stars, tributes to the legends and all the best from the Danish jazz scene

A total of 24 concerts are on the program when for this years edition Musikhuset Swinger during Aarhus Jazz Festival 2024. Musikhuset and Aarhus Jazz Orchestra collaborate to make the Aarhus Jazz Festival even more festive for the whole city.

"We love when Musikhuset and the city buzz with summer jazz. We have made an effort to put together a program that speaks to both the jazz lover and all those who just want to go out and hear great live music. It is quite unique that in just one week you get the opportunity to meet jazz in so many different varieties," says Musikhuset's artistic director , Jeppe Uggerhøj.

International stars and free joys

Big international stars like Lisa Ekdahl, Stacey Kent and Cécile McLorin Salvant take the stages, while there is plenty of free jazz both inside and outside the Musikhuset during the festival.

Lisa Ekdahl kicks off the jazz party in the company of Aarhus Jazz Orchestra. It is a tradition for Aarhus Jazz Orchestra to fill Store Sal in the company of big international stars. This year, it is the popular and beloved Swedish singer, Lisa Ekdahl, who sings with the orchestra. It is also a particularly popular tradition that Aarhus Jazz Orchestra pays tribute to the legends when they invite the audience to a free concert in Musikhuset's foyer every day. This year it is the legendary Brecker Brothers, who with groovy fusion jazz made it almost impossible to sit still . They even have one of the two brothers, Randy Brecker, on stage.

"It is a huge scoop to have an international star like Randy Brecker on stage four nights in a row, and we are very much looking forward to presenting the Brecker Brothers' fantastic music. It is our gift to Aarhus that the concerts are free, and we are sure that lots of people, according to tradition, will stop by. All in all, the jazz festival is our favorite time of the year with sun, summer and lots of jazz for everyone", says Anders Ørbæk, who is the Orchestra Director at Aarhus Jazz Orchestra.

Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and Musikhuset present a diverse and high-quality program in colleboration with the Aarhus Jazz Festival 2024 with big Danish and international stars and plenty of free concerts. For several years, the three Aarhusian cultural institutions have worked hand in hand to strengthen the jazz scene and the community around music in Aarhus.
