Melody Gardot & Aarhus Jazz Orchestra (US/DK)
A headliner with teeth and charisma
During this year's jazz festival, Musikhuset Aarhus continues its tradition and presents one of the genre's biggest names in a new and unique collaboration with the talented Aarhus Jazz Orchestra.
32-year-old Melody Gardot is a composer, guitarist, pianist and songwriter. Her sensitive and expressive tunes fill audiences with excitement.
Melody Gardot had her breakthrough with the album My One and Only Thrill, which has sold 1.5 million copies since 2009. The album was created in collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Larry Klein, who is particularly known for having worked with Joni Michell (to whom he was married and worked on Both Sides Now with) for many years as well as artists such as Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, and Tracy Chapman.
Here at home, reviewers have praised her album and breathtaking live performances. GAFFA described her most recent visit to Denmark as 'An effortless tour de force from the charismatic American and her excellent band' and gave her a six-star rating, while Berlingske described The Currency of Man as a beautiful album with teeth and charisma.
Melody Gardot's tour de force should be seen in the light of her continuing struggle with injuries stemming from a traffic accident, which would change her musical journey. As a 19-year-old, she was badly injured as she was hit by a jeep while cycling. She was hospitalised for more than a year and was unable to play the piano for a prolonged period.
