Onom Agemo & the Disco Jumpers feat. special guest: Natalie Greffel (DE)
Afrobeat can be quite formal, sterile, and, at times, even a bit boring when left to the devices of Fela Kuti's many followers around the world. Luckily, that is not the case with Onom Agemo.
Led by the restless saxophonist Johannes Schleiermacher, this Berlin-based quintet (joined on this night by exiled Aarhus resident and Danish-Mozambiquan singer Natalie Greffel) has defied genres by playing the most extreme, incorporated, explosive jazz improvisations, far-out krautrock, bubbling keyboard, and psychedelic elements, which has created a unique and spellbinding musical mélange.
Onom Agemo & The Disco Jumpers' second and most recent album Liquid Love is nothing less than an afrobeat bomb. Their recently released 7" is more desert blues and boogie inspired, recorded with the Malian guitarist Ahmed Ag Kaedi.
