Petri-Mazur-Murray – Nye Spor (DK/BR)
Musical journey through Brazilian landscapes
Michala Petri - the leading recorder player throughout the decades - takes us on a new musical journey to "Terra do Brasil" through the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ernesto Nazareth, Egberto Gismonti, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Hermeto Pascoal and others.
Two top musicians accompany Michala Petri on the journey: the young Brazilian guitarist and composer Daniel Murray, and the award-winning percussionist and composer Marilyn Mazur.
Daniel Murray is a natural talent who, at an early age, established himself as a master in interpreting Tom Jobi's music and as the leading guitar voice in contemporary Brazilian music.
Marilyn Mazur moves confidently between many musical acts, has received multiple jazz awards and has toured with Miles Davis. With her extraordinary ability to immersive herself in the music and her inventive use of percussion, she colors the soundscape from the discreet to the explosive and matches her two companions to perfection.
Only now - two years after the live recording of the CD Brazilian Landscapes in the Concert Church at Blågårds Plads in the spring of 2017 - the three busy musicians have found time to meet to perform a concert with the music from the album, which explores Brazilian music and examines the origins of the Bossanova.
Brazilian music can best be described with the Portuguese word "saudade" which mixes longing, sadness and memory.
The concert is one of three New Directions concerts during the festival. See also July 17, 8.00 pm Århus Sinfonietta/Helsingør Theater and AUT performance Friday July 19 at 5.00 pm.
