Carsten Dahl/Trinity feat. Nils Bosse Davidsen & Stefan Pasborg (DK)
A force field of innovative interactions
Carsten Dahl is a real one-of-a-kind on the piano and is considered a Danish pianist of absolutely world class. But he is more than that - an artist who courageously takes on the deep questions of existence through his music, which can reflect heavenly beauty as well as the fear and tremble of the soul.
This is conveyed using a tonal language, which is probably deeply rooted in a jazz tradition, but which can both offer outbreaks of expressive, free improvisation and movements into the classical music sound.
Carsten Dahl possesses a rare poetic sound and together the trio is the essence of ensembles through improvisations, Nordic bits and famous American standards. A force field of innovative interaction materialises between the three musicians through their performing composers/composing musicians approach.
Jan Granlie, Salt Peanuts, wrote the following review on the trio's concert in Montmartre in March 2019:
"I think about other piano trios that are out there and who sells 1000's of discs and think: What is Keith Jarrett's trio in relation to this? What is the Nordic piano trio in relation to what these three musicians deliver? Many have claimed that Dahl is a musician who is inspired by Keith Jarrett in excess, and he may well be one, but together with Nils Bo Davidsen and Stefan Pasborg, the three musicians exceed most of what we've received from the Jarrett-trio in the last 20 years. For this was brilliant! "
