Original sound universe filled with captivating melodies

On this evening, you can experience the most hyped young name on the Danish jazz scene right now playing Radar's 360-degree stage.

Aarhus-based Athletic Progression is an instrumental trio that finds their inspiration in jazz and hip hop. The three young musicians Jonas Cook (keys), Jonathan J. Ludvigsen (drums) and Justo Gambula (bass) are musically influenced by Herbie Hancock, Yussef Kamaal and Flying Lotus.

The debut EP from earlier this year, Dark Smoke, testifies to a band with its own sound universe that is easily recognizable and filled with captivating tunes.

Since the band moved onto Danish stages in 2016, they have quickly become one of the most eye-catching bands on the Danish up-coming scene.

Last year, they had a serious breakthrough both internationally - with shows at, e.g., Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, the jazz club PizzaExpress in London and the Dutch festival Eurosonic - and in Denmark, where they, among other things, played at a sold-out Montmartre in Copenhagen and at P8's Jazz Alive in DR Koncerthuset.

The concert at Radar during the Aarhus Jazz Festival will be Athletic Progression's first show as a headliner in their hometown of Aarhus.
