Bassist from the Danish jazz elite leads a new group
Bass player Jens Jefsen will attend this year's jazz festival with a newly formed quartet with Jesper Riis, Kathrine Windfeld and John Riddell.
Jens Jefsen is part of the elite of Danish jazz bassists and has for many years gained recognition for his melodic and responsive style, which is broadly based on a personal style that always nurses the music of the moment.
Jens Jefsen played in the 70s with many resident and guesting American jazz musicians such as Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Ben Webster, Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge, Art Farmer, Clark Terry, Zoot Zims and Al Cohn, Thad Jones and Pepper Adams.
In addition to radio, TV and theater jobs, he also played with many trendsetting Danish bands: Tears, Det Beskidte Dusin, Kamæleon, Tøbrud, Atilla Engin Group, Fusijama, Istanbul Express, Valdemar Rasmussen Trio and Klüvers Big Band (1991-2004).
From 1980, he was a regular bassist with Povl Dissing & Benny Andersen until the latter's death in 2018.
Today, he is active with, e.g., Allan Mortensen & Jens Jefsen Trio, own bands and in new constellations with the New York-based Danish saxophonist Stephan Kammerer.
Jens Jefsen has recorded many albums as a session musician and published nine solo albums. A tenth should be on its way.
