Groovy beat-based jazztronica
Abekejser mixes the heavy rhythms of hip-hop with the fine harmonies and nuances of jazz. Inspired by near and far and paired in a colorful jungle machine. Abekejser effortlessly swings from tight beats to playful improvisation and groovy hooks.
No musical dogmas are safe. Abekejser lives in the jungle and only parties to the sound of the grooviest beat-based jazztronica.
Although most of the five musicians have a background in jazz and world music, the double bass is thrown out along with the fixed templates. Instead, the band bases its sound on a foundation of strong beats from a combination of electronic drum machines and acoustic drum kits. On top of this, crackling synthesizers and saturated guitars deliver epic harmonies and catchy tunes.
So whether you are most ready to sit on the couch and dream yourself away, or whether it is at a sweaty dance party, the faithful servants of Abekejser are ready to deliver the soundtrack.
The musical inspirations hark back to bands like Jaga Jazzist, Snarky Puppy, Hiatus Kaiyote, and Weather Report, but Abekejser remains unique. A new Danish sound that is hard to pinpoint.
In October 2019, Abekejser released their debut album Floating Through The Universe on the Norwegian record label AMP Music & Records. The album received good reviews at home and abroad and won the Jazznyt-award 2019 for record of the year.
