Between improvisation and composition

Aarhus-based vocalist and pianist Beatriz Gijón presents her project band Onbeat together with Jacob Djursaa (electric guitar), Otso Kasperi (bass), and Ludvig Søndergaard (drums).

With roots in both classical music and jazz and based on Beatriz Gijón's compositions, the project explores the interaction between improvisation and composition and questions the limits of free improvisation.

The project presents its very own contemporary musical approach to music with a special focus on skewed beats and polyrhythms. Onbeat moves between unusual rhythm patterns and the total absence of a fixed pulse.
