"We are DYJO"

Meet the big band stars of tomorrow as the talented big band Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra performs a special repertoire by the individual band members. Under the title “We Are DYJO”, each musician has either chosen, composed, or arranged one song on the setlist, which they will present with a story or narrative before playing with the big band. “We Are DYJO” is a unique opportunity to get to know the band's budding musicians in their natural habitat: big band music.

Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra is an up-and-coming youth big band on the Danish jazz scene. The band consists of emerging talents from the region rising to prominence in the Danish jazz scene and functions both as a young elite big band and as a talent development base in the Central Denmark Region. Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra leaves room for the wild, quirky, and experimental - but with its roots in the traditional.

The band is led and conducted by drummer John Riddell. Despite his young age, Riddell has already left his mark on the Danish jazz scene with many different soloists and orchestras. He is one of the most sought-after young drummers in Denmark, a regular member of Aarhus Jazz Orchestra. He has played with many Danish and international soloists such as Randy Brecker, Andrea Motis, Seamus Blake, Adam Rapa, Teitur, Caroline Henderson, Sinne Eeg, Cæcilie Norby, and many more.

Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra is supported by the Central Denmark Region, Aarhus Kulturudviklingspulje, the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, and Aarhus School of Music.
