Emil de Waal and Gustaf Ljunggren Improvise with Mystery Guests on the Musikhuset Café Stage

Improvisation is paramount, and there's no telling what will come out of these artistic encounters when drummer Emil de Waal and multi-instrumentalist Gustaf Ljunggreen take over Musikhuset Aarhus' café stage! For the past 25 years, the two musicians have performed on stages all over the world - and now it's time for Musikhuset Swings.

The concert is part of Aarhus Jazz Festival's artist residency 2024, where musicians Emil de Waal and Gustaf Ljunggren can be experienced in many different musical contexts as guest artists at the festival.

Always curious, the duo has worked across genres and with musicians from around the world, and these concerts are no exception. At Musikhuset Swinger, Emil de Waal and Gustaf Ljunggren will be joined by Kati Brien, who plays alto saxophone in Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, on Tuesday, July 16, and on Wednesday, July 17, the audience can experience Emil de Waal and Gustaf Ljunggren on the Café Stage together with some of the other musicians they have played with during their artist residency at Aarhus Jazz Festival. 

Gustaf Ljunggreen and Emil de Waal have released three albums together that embody a unique musical friendship. Their latest album Stockholm Copenhagen (2023) celebrates the musicians' hometowns with instrumental tracks that playfully move between the acoustic, electric, and electronic without being limited by genres and styles. 

Musikhuset Swings at Aarhus Jazz Festival

True to tradition, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and Musikhuset Aarhus invite you to Musikhuset Swings at Aarhus Jazz Festival.

Musikhuset Swings takes place from July 12-19 with great jazz performances in and around Musikhuset and in front of KISSA in Musikhusparken from Denmark and abroad. Look forward to lots of great free live jazz, ticketed concerts with sublime jazz names, and lots of good vibes.

Musikhuset Swings is a continuation of Ridehuset Swinger, which Aarhus Jazz Orchestra has organized for more than 30 years, and which moved into Musikhuset in 2022 due to the new construction in front of ARoS.
