Tour de Force into the Expressive Possibilities of the Double Bass

Join three of Scandinavia's most prominent double bassists on a deep, melodic, and exciting musical journey as Anders Jormin (SE), Thomas Markusson (SE), and Morten Ramsbøl (DK) join forces on the Café Stage in Musikhuset. With the three double bassists' shared love of “the deepest tree in the forest”, improvisation, and composition, audiences can look forward to a true tour de force into the expressive possibilities of the double bass as both a lyrical and sensitive instrument.

Thomas Markusson (1978) has been a driving force on the Swedish music scene for 25 years and has been involved in Swedish and international projects. Markusson's unique blend of technical skill and artistic sensitivity has earned him recognition as a versatile and dynamic musician. He navigates different musical genres effortlessly and brings a distinctive character to his performances. 

Bassist and composer Morten Ramsbøl (1970) was born in Aarhus, Denmark, but currently resides in Austria where he works as a professor of jazz double bass at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in Austria. He has played with an impressive list of artists and released several albums. Morten Ramsbøl is known for his musicality and ability to touch listeners with his melodic and lyrical performances.

Internationally renowned double bassist and composer Anders Jormin from Gothenburg has been a recording artist with ECM Records for many years. Over the years, he has received many prestigious awards for his unique artistic expression and emotional music. He has recorded over 100 albums and was the first modern improviser elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. Today, Anders Jormin is affiliated as a professor at several universities, including Professor Emeritus at the Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Gothenburg.

Musikhuset Swings at Aarhus Jazz Festival

True to tradition, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and Musikhuset Aarhus invite you to Musikhuset Swings at Aarhus Jazz Festival.

Musikhuset Swings takes place from July 12-19 with great jazz performances in and around Musikhuset and in front of KISSA in Musikhusparken from Denmark and abroad. Look forward to lots of great free live jazz, ticketed concerts with sublime jazz names, and lots of good vibes.

Musikhuset Swings is a continuation of Ridehuset Swinger, which Aarhus Jazz Orchestra has organized for more than 30 years, and which moved into Musikhuset in 2022 due to the new construction in front of ARoS.
