Celebrating Brecker Brothers

Whenever the Brecker Brothers took the stage, it was impossible to stay still. The fusion jazz group consisting of Michael and Randy Brecker would have turned 50 this year. To mark the occassion, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra is going all out to make you groove when legendary trumpeter Randy Brecker visits Musikhuset Swinger with the big band for a massive tribute concert.

The concert program will be a tour de force through the rich discography of the brothers with songs like East River, Some Skunk Funk, Song For Barry, all arranged in magnificent big band versions. The Brecker Brothers have been shaping the sound of fusion jazz since the 70s, and with their unique blend of funk and jazz have pioneered a type of jazz that is rich and complex, yet groovy and full of soul. And that's exactly what you can expect when Aarhus Jazz Orchestra pays tribute to the Brecker Brothers - a fusion-jazzy potpourri of funky beats, breathless riffs, and grandiose ballads with plenty of room for solo performances, not least by Randy Brecker himself.

Randy Brecker

Grammy-winning American trumpeter Randy Brecker has been a key figure on the international and American jazz scene for the past 50 years. He has appeared on over 100 albums with James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, Jaco Pastorius, and Frank Zappa, and has played with just as many bands - from The Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers to Dave Weckl Band and the Brecker Brothers.
