Juniper Fuse (DK/CA)

Two microtonal prepared pianos, exciting percussion instruments, and Lotte Anker's iconic sound on the saxophone create an amazing, gripping concert.

Formed in 2022, Juniper Fuse brings together a visionary team of improvising and classical musicians that includes saxophonist Lotte Anker, pianists Simon Toldam and Matt Choboter, and percussionists Matias Seibæk and Peter Bruun. Juniper Fuse is inspired by prehistoric cave art and symbology. As an important connection point to early human imagination and creativity, caves can be psychic wombs that reach back in time to explore the archetypal subconscious.

The work played at the concert is in dialogue with the poem "The Jointure" by Clayton Eshleman. Clayton Eshleman's poetry reminds us of the need to cultivate our "deep mind" or subconscious. "For it is in the deep mind that the wilderness and the unconscious become one, and in a half-understood but very profound way our relationship to external ecologies seems to be conditioned by our internal ecologies."

In the spirit of cave art, Juniper Fuse explores a maze of unusual percussion, including a microtonal vibraphone, bass selonding (custom-tuned Balinese metallophone), and two custom-made microtonal prepared pianos.
