DREAM BIG FISH (DK/DE)

DREAM BIG FISH is an international trio based in New York and Berlin. The band consists of three prominent young voices on the European jazz scene who came together through a shared passion for improvisation. In early 2024, Dream Big Fish released their self-titled debut album, which challenges the traditions and norms of jazz with the ambition to create beauty and meaning through powerful compositions and free improvisation.

Julius Gawlik is a saxophonist and clarinetist based in Berlin. In 2014, he received the Outstanding Soloist Scholarship from Temple University in Philadelphia, and in 2019, he won the JIB Jazz Prize. He is a member of several internationally recognized bands and has played with Jim Black, Jeff Ballard, Tim Hagans, Aynur Dogan, George Garzone and Ensemble Modern, among others. In 2021, he became a permanent member of the prestigious NDR Big Band.

Thorbjørn Stefansson, born and raised in Denmark, is a bassist based in New York City. He leads a quartet with Kit Downes, Camila Nebbia, and Phillip Dornbusch, and has worked with musicians such as George Garzone, Loren Stillman, Jonas Burgwinkel, Luigi Grasso, and Jacky Terrasson. In 2021, he received the JIB Jazz Prize in Berlin in the category "outstanding soloist."

Marius Wankel is a drummer and composer living in Berlin. Besides being an active part of the jazz and improvisation scene, he plays in punk bands and produces music, having worked with artists such as Myka9, Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra, Wanja Slavin, Lola von der Gracht, Tim Novikov, Isaiah Barr, and many more. Since 2024, he has also been part of the Future Bash concert series.
