Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra (DK)

Get close to the big band stars of tomorrow when Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra plays a special concert at Musikhuset Swings with works created by the orchestra's musicians.

For the "We Are DYJO" concert, each musician has either chosen, composed, or arranged a song for the set list, which he or she will introduce and then play with the big band. "We Are DYJO" is a unique opportunity to get close to the band's up-and-coming musicians where they feel most at home: in big band music.

Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra is an up-and-coming youth big band on the Danish jazz scene. The band consists of the region's rising stars in Danish jazz, functioning both as an elite youth big band and as a talent development base in the Central Denmark region. Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra makes room for the wild, the quirky, and the experimental, but remains rooted in traditional.

The band is led and conducted by drummer John Riddell. Despite his young age, Riddell has already made his mark on the Danish jazz scene with many different soloists and bands. He is one of the most sought-after young drummers in Denmark, a regular member of the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, and has played with many orchestras and soloists: Randy Brecker, Andrea Motis, Seamus Blake, DR Big Band, Adam Rapa, Teitur, Caroline Henderson, Sinne Eeg, Cæcilie Norby, and many more.

Danish Youth Jazz Orchestra is supported by Spar Nord Fonden, Augustinus Fonden, CAC Fonden, The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, and Aarhus School of Music.
