Experience the Danish Jazz Trio HØK at Fairbar

HØK consists of three young musicians who came together as a trio for the first time in 2019. Musical curiosity and a shared search for a dynamic ensemble became the focal point of the band's sound. This same curiosity and quest also put the project on hold for a few years, as all members traveled to different countries to study. In 2024, the three reunited in Denmark in a new format under the name HØK. The project is a dynamic and intimate indie-folk-inspired jazz, where stories about personal development and experiences of the last years are told in a musical, lyrical, and reflective form.

HØK released their debut album Ud Af Byen in November 2024, with original compositions in an organic and thoughtful sound universe. Hovering between modern jazz and melodies reminiscent of the folk songbook, HØK ́s music is a solid attempt at contemporary instrumental music and improvisation. The compositions revolve around reflections on "coming home", finding peace in movement and remembering to enjoy the view while you're there.

"Music is a way of returning to a feeling that I'm constantly searching for. It's when everything but the music briefly ceases to exist. At that moment, a space arises from which everything feels completely honest and meaningful," says guitarist and composer Emil Hornhaver.

The album includes the composition "The Dreamer", which in a flowing, circular
movement lets the melody unfold in melodic improvisation. "Rain," which lets modern harmonics lead to a simple melody in an open atmosphere, and "Distance," a sprawling and somber piece that slowly intensifies, only to give a brief release at the end.

"Our music is spacious and is played with room for nuance," says drummer and composer Hans Kristian Knold. He elaborates: "When there is room for the nuances, you can hear the musician behind the instrument, and that's when the music really starts to get exciting."

Bassist Morten Østerlund adds: "We are all in a state of rapid personal development, and it's really exciting to hear how the music evolves over time. I experience so much desire to grow in and with the music in this band."

At the concerts, HØK will play music from the debut album as well as material from the upcoming album expected to be released in spring 2026.
