Monica Zetterlund's Life through Music and Storytelling
With this portrait concert, the phenomenon Monica Zetterlund comes to life, albeit for a short evening in Vestergade.
One life, one story, one concert.
During the concert, Monica's life unfolds as a working-class child who becomes the object of her father's high ambitions and strict demands, with all the sorrows and failures that follow. Both those she experienced firsthand and those she inflicted on others, including her daughter Eva-Lena. We also experience her turbulent relationship with men, drinking, loneliness, and lovesickness, as well as her relationship with her father and stage fright, and her struggle against the Law of Jante and small-town mentality.
A portrait of a woman who fights to become herself and to do what she wants to do - and make it work with the expectations of society and her audiences.
A sensual musical expedition
The music is in very good hands with this group of jazz musicians, consisting of three experienced gentlemen, Morten Haugshøj, Thomas Sejthen, and Jesper Bo Knudsen, who are well-known on the Danish jazz scene and have several releases behind them as a trio. At the forefront is a somewhat unconventional but very exciting singer and performer with roots in the Middle East.
The Danish-Persian songbird Samara Bahrami has a rare linguistic ability that makes her both credible and intimate in the beautiful interpretations from the Swedish catalog and the unfolding of the songs and lyrics through stories and anecdotes about Zetterlund's extraordinary life, from childhood to her death.
A beautiful and complete experience that will appeal to music lovers as well as those who are fascinated by the stories of people who both attract and repel us.
