Jungle Jazz, Swing Music, and Stories for Kids and Parents
Where do drums come from? How did they become a drum set? Can you play drums in a movie theater? Or in a church? - And what does that have to do with jazz?
A FanJAZZtic Drum Journey is a musically saturated concert performance that tells the story of drums and jazz music from the African savannah to the asphalt jungle of New York. The concert offers a cornucopia of music ranging from jungle book and sad blues to breathless swing. Casper Mikkelsen's Lovely Jazz Band delivers it all with a twinkle in their eye, impressive craftsmanship and infectious enthusiasm. Definitely jazz for kids!
Casper Mikkelsen's Lovely Jazz Band plays outgoing swing, jazz, and atmospheric (sound) images from dance halls, speakeasies, and silent movie theaters in the traffic jungles of New Orleans, Chicago, and New York in the 20s and 30s for listening, partying, dancing, and drinking crowds. In recent years, the lovely jazz band has played more than 200 concerts throughout Denmark, making it one of the country's most active jazz bands.
In addition to regular participation in bands such as The KutiMangoes, Magnus Fra Gaarden, and AUDIOGRAF, bandleader Mikkelsen has accompanied a wide range of the Danish music scene's spearheads, including Johnny Madsen, Chief1, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, Benjamin Koppel, Jesper Thilo, Finn Ziegler, Sinne Eeg, Hugo Rasmussen, Jacob Fischer and many more.

After the concert, you can sign up for an exciting and creative workshop to make stick puppets in preparation for this year's street parade. The workshop is led by art and design duo En Hemmelig Klub and takes place at the Musikhuset from 11 am - 1 pm. For the full jazz festival experience, you can then follow the Aarhus Jazz Festival Brass Band on the traditional street parade through the city, starting from Musikhusparken at 1 pm.
