Paal Nilssen-Love, from Oslo to Aarhus (NO/DK)

Paal Nilssen-Love is one of the most influential and hard-working drummers on the Norwegian jazz scene. Through his work in numerous bands and ensembles, as well as collaborations with some of the giants of free jazz in its development, he has been at the forefront of the raw and energetic Scandinavian free jazz scene.

During this year's Aarhus Jazz Festival, Paal Nilssen-Love will visit Papirlageret in Sydhavnen in an exciting line-up of musicians from both Aarhus and Copenhagen.

Paal Nilssen-Love is currently composing music as much as he is playing concerts, and he sees this as something that goes hand in hand. He composes for Large Unit, PNL Circus, Murray / Flaten / Nilssen-Love trio, venter / Grönberg / Vågan / Nilssen-Love, and also sologong. He performed Sildajazz in 2023 and was commissioned for Sildajazz festival in Haugesund in 2025. He will host workshops for music students in Haugesund and Stavanger in the spring of 2025, and after days of rehearsals will perform a brand new 60-minute piece for about 30 musicians.

We look forward to an evening where there will undoubtedly be a strong emphasis on improvisation. As usual, the unexpected happens in the expected once they find each other.
