Come build the best jazz playground in town with the jazz-stronauts from En Hemmelig Klub
Instead of assembling melodic elements into new music, we create with colored and patterned cardboard shapes that can be moved, rearranged, stacked in new ways, knocked over, and assembled into something completely new! In this workshop, some brave musicians will also join in and play a version of what you build. Or will you build a version of what they play? Can you make the figures match the music? This workshop will take place at Dokk1 in the main hall, which will be open facing the café. This year, the Aarhus Jazz Festival has teamed up with the artist duo En Hemmelig Klub. They are creating a jazz playground that you can encounter at various locations during the festival. Inspired by free improvisation and playing with familiar elements of the jazz world, you can build giant cardboard constructions in the playground. As always, En Hemmelig Klub guarantees a celebration of free play, even when it turns into a jazz club. En Hemmelig Klub was founded by Annabelle Nielsen and Kenn Munk Nielsen in London in 2009 but has been based in Denmark since 2011. They play with everything they can get their hands on and see playing as an art form. During Aarhus Jazz Festival 2025, they will be doing several workshops in our Kids and Family Jazz program; four jazz playgrounds and a workshop in connection with the street parade on the opening day of the festival.
