Experimental jazz meets modern compositional music
For the past four years, Århus Sinfonietta has brought music to new audiences with Nye Spor at Aarhus Jazz Festival, which explores the intermingling of experimental jazz and modern compositional music.
In 2021, the four-year project, in which each year two composers compose a new piece for four of the Sinfonietta's musicians, will come to an end.
What these composers have in common is that are equal parts practicing musicians and creative composers. As part of Århus Sinfonietta, they are heavily involved in the composition process and the material at hand.
At this concert, open-minded Aarhus concertgoers can experience two new pieces by Henriette Groth and Lars Greve, as well as tunes from the shows of previous years.
Århus Sinfonietta is about creating unique hybrid concerts for a broad and diverse audience. Since its founding in 1990, the band has strived to perform music that understands its past, plays its present, and develops its future.
Århus Sinfonietta was established in 1990 by a group of musicians from Aarhus Symfoniorkester (Aarhus Symphony Orchestra) and Det Jyske Ensemble in collaboration with composer Hans Abrahamsen and currently has 19 permanent members.
Since its formation, Århus Sinfonietta has had the following creative directors: Hans Abrahamsen, Niels Marthinsen, Erik Kaltoft, Hjarne Fessel, and Allan Gravgaard Madsen.
In December 2020, Århus Sinfonietta hired cellist Jakob Kullberg as creative lead, further dedicating itself to deliver modern compositional music in contemporary and innovative concert formats.
