Norwegian jazz comet Marius Neset and DR Big Band set their sights on their newest album Tributes
The album has been hailed as genius and the hottest album of the year in the international press. Now, you can experience Neset as both a virtuosic saxophone soloist as an original composer, led by chief conductor Miho Hazama.
Saxophonist and composer Marius Neset is one of the most important voices on the contemporary European jazz scene. With superlatives like sensational and hot in the international jazz press, a Norwegian Grammy, and a nomination for the Nordic Council's Music Prize under his belt, Neset can now travel the world with his own bands and – as for this concert – prized guest performer.
Like DR Big Band's chief conductor Miho Hazama, Marius Neset is chosen as one of the 25 artists who, according to the US Downbeat Magazine will shape the future of jazz – globally. On this evening, two strong characters meet in Ridehuset in front of DR Big Band, which has a tight bond with both young artists.
Until recently, Marius Neset resided in Copenhagen, where he became an important part of the Danish jazz scene and a new original voice in international jazz. His special combination and stellar technique, expert improvisation, and a wide mastery of genres gave him the name the new Jan Garbarek. Apart from DR Big Band, his many prominent collaboration partners include London Sinfonietta, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, and the icon Django Bates.
Now, DR Big Band, chief conductor Miho Hazama, and Marius Neset present a concert with tunes from their joint album Tribute, which will be released on the renowned German label ACT, and is the result of a whole year's intense collaboration between Neset, Hazama, and the band. The titular Tributes is a larger jazz suite specially composed for DR Big Band with entries such as Children's Day – a tribute to the kids – and Bicycle Town – a tribute to Neset's former hometown Copenhagen.
Marius Neset is one of Europe’s most skillful and prolific newly risen jazz stars. He looks like the young Leonardo DiCaprio and can sound like a fusion of Jan Garbarek and the late Michael Brecker.
The concert is part of Ridehuset Swinger, which will once again deliver great musical experiences and good vibes. Ridehuset Swinger is organized by Aarhus Jazz Orchestra.
