Hess Is More - Apollonian Circles (DK/US/DE)
Hess Is More
A complete musical experience
The circular ensemble Hess Is More presents the project Apollonian Circles in Aarhus for the first time with two musical total experiences staged by theater director Tue Biering, set designers Christian Friedländer and Dicki Lakha, and designer Henrik Vibskov.
During Aarhus Jazz Festival 2021, Hess Is More explores a concert format in which the successful cross-aesthetic project Apollonian Cirlces is re-established and interpreted in a new edition at Radar.
The project is centered around the Hess Is More ensemble in an intimate and intense meeting with the audience, where scenography, costumes, and lighting design are guided by the underlying dramaturgy.
The music is somewhere between electronic and acoustic and references a number of regions and genres such as jazz, kraut, dance music, MaPiano, pop, electronica, and more.
Melodies and visual elements are varied, rotated, and launched into orbit. The ambiance sounds lie it came from a different dimension with its focus on time, openness, and trance.
Apollonian Circles was developed in the spring of 2019 and premiered in the Apollo Canteen at Kunsthal Charlottenborg during Copenhagen Jazz Festival in July 2019. Here, over 1,000 spectators experienced 10 concerts with the band and changing themes and guest musicians.
The project was then re-launched in a"black" version, a kind of reflection of the summer performances, on the black box stage Xenon in Huset KBH during Winter Jazz 2020 with four concerts and over 500 audience members, and as an ambitious online project in autumn 2020, where it was simultaneously live-streamed from Copenhagen and New York.
