The great innovator of the tango genre

It was not without conflicts and clashes from his hinterland in Argentina that Astor Piazzolla turned the tango genre upside down. With his Tango Nuevo, he brought the genre from the dance floor and onto the big concert stages.

Pioneer and groundbreaker! - Astor Piazzolla has received many accolades for writing music based on the rhythms and harmonies of the Argentine tango.

However, he is first and foremost an exciting and original composer and musician, who throughout his life has constantly refined and further developed his compositions and constellations.

At this concert, you will be able to hear some of the rarely performed pieces from Astor Piazzolla's huge tango output, including Kichu and Vibraphonissimo. Several of the tunes have been written for some of his legendary collaborators such as Gary Burton and Enrique Kitcho Diaz.

For this concert, Bjarke Mogensen has arranged a selection of his tunes and gathered a team of virtuoso musicians for a very special tribute to the composer's extensive-expression. The concert also marks the 100th anniversary of Astor Piazzolla's birth.
