Jazz standards with a blue note
It is said that jazz has some of its roots in blues. The core of both types of music is made up of improvisation and the ability to add personality to the music. However, the great jazz classics are typically based on lyrics and melodies that can stand being recorded over and over again, and which can still be reinterpreted.
Singer James Loveless has been the dynamic frontman of the award-winning blues band Shades of Blue for many years. He still is, but he also has a deep love for the many lyrics and melodies that have been interpreted by jazz's great trendsetters over the years.
The time has come to live out this love, which is why in 2019 a new and interesting constellation entered the music scene: the Loveless Blue Jazz Quintet. A band that houses some of Danish music's most competent and versatile musicians.
The repertoire consists of well-known and lesser-known jazz standards interpreted with an unmistakable blue note and an energy that reflects the musicians' background.
Pianist Kristian Fogh is a permanent member of Mike Andersen Band and Lars Lilholt Band and released a CD with his own jazz-inspired compositions in 2019.
Saxophonist Niels Mathiasen has been featured as a studio musician on a number of releases over the past 30 years and tours with, among others, Gnags, Poul Krebs and award-winning Grarup All Stars.
Drummer Jens Kristian Dam is also a regular member of Mike Andersen Band and HP Lange's band in addition to being a first-call drummer in a wide range of genres.
For many years, Double bassist Jørgen Nielsen has been an active part of the Danish rock, jazz and blues scene as a member of Frimer Band, Bourbon Street Jazzband, River Jazz & Bluesband, and more.
