At many venues, you can enjoy unique concert experiences that you would never have expected.

For example, have you ever wondered what would happen if you were to fill the cathedral with 15 musicians from a number of different European improvisation collectives and let them play non-stop for four hours? You can experience this for free on Friday, July 14. The musicians have come to Aarhus as part of Share Impro Fest, where they will be experimenting for four days during the festival in Sydhavnen, where you will surely find unique concerts at Knud’s Kiosk every night.

This year, the festival also features a new venue in Sydhavnen, which presents concerts of the most adventurous kind. At Papirlageret in Sydhavnen, you can experience Aarhus-based Jens Balder with his trombone and the experimental Quatro4Fire. Alongside Papirlageret, the organisers of Alt_R_Jazz also present experimental concerts in Det 3. rum. Here you can hear, among other things, Margaux Oswald/Lotte Anker, Crush String Collective, Johanna Sulkunen/Michiyo Yagi or Jungle Money with Jan Kaspersen at the front.

At the other end of the city, you can experience an experimental format in Helsingør Theater (Den Gamle By) when world-renowned drummer Bob Moses takes to the intimate stage with saxophonists Thomas Agergaard and Thomas Hass in their Double Drums project. Unusually, the band features two saxophones, two drum kits, and a bassist. The music is dreamy, swinging, and imaginative.

In the heart of the city, you can find experimental scenes at Radar and Institut for X. On Tuesday, Radar hosts string jazz with the band Halvcirkel, a string quartet based on a foundation of classical training that ventures into new, uncharted paths.

At the venue turkis you can hear, among other things, free-jazz and krautrock with Nausia or a Danish-Japanese hybrid at the intersection of jazz, electronics and old music traditions with Johanna Sulkunen/Michiyo Yagi.

You can find many more adventurous experiences by exploring the complete jazz festival programme. For example, use our experience categories - where you can choose the category 'I want to go on an adventure'
