Guitar vs. Guitar – Nye Spor (DK)
Musical guitar summit
As part of this year's New Tracks concert series, Aarhus jazz festival has created the unique concert experience Guitar vs. Guitar, which will premiere at the charming Helsingør Theater in collaboration with three amazing musicians.
Experience the instrument from countless, exciting perspectives as jazz guitarist Uffe Steen meets the classical guitarist Frederik Munk Larsen and video artist Jens Mønsted.
Inspired by jazz standards, renaissance and folk music, improvisational experiments, and more, the guitar takes on itself in both acoustic and electric versions, as well as on screen.
This includes solo, duo, and trio music, and a large, virtual guitar band with material collected via social media. The stage is set for a special experience for eyes and ears as the musical compositions and improvisations are treated with care and creativity by two guitar virtuosos and a video wizard.
Uffe Steen is one of the best Danish axemen in the blues and jazz genres. He is a versatile guitarist with a unique playing style and an inherent, bluesy expression. Uffe Steen is renowned both in Denmark and abroad and is the recipient of the prestigious 2015 Ben Webster award. He is known from bands such as Uffe Steen Trio, Shades of Blue, and Indra, and has performed with international stars such as Joey Baron, Jeff Ballard, Maria Bergman, Bob Rockwell, and Jimmy Smith.
Frederik Munk Larsen is a trendsetting classical guitarist who has made a name for himself in the Danish and international music scenes as a soloist and chamber musician. In 2001, he made his debut from the soloist class at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus/Aalborg and was praised with 'Dynamic and impeccable' (Berlingske), 'Melting guitar play' (Politiken), and 'Natural authority' (Jyllands-Posten).
He is interested in both old and modern classical music and has participated in the premieres of more than 80 works. He is the co-founder of the award-winning trio Voz Nueva and the innovative music collective SCENATET.
Jens Mønsted is a Danish pianist and VJ, working with video, music, and stage, preferably in combination. He has worked in various theatres, such as Svalegangen, Teater Katapult, Teater O, and Kassandra Production, as a video designer, composer, and video set designer. He has released several records as a keyboard player for bands such as Baconflex and Picnic, and has produced visuals for many famous music acts as a VJ.
