Magenta Kvartett is an experimental saxophone quartet with roots in the Stockholm jazz and improvisation scene.

In the fall of 2022, alto saxophonist Julia Strzalek founded the saxophone quartet consisting of four prominent saxophonists working in jazz, free improvisation, and contemporary art music. With a musical and personal range, the saxophone quartet moves between through-composed and completely improvised material. The quartet format is both honored and challenged, and solo, duo, and trio excursions are made within the quartet framework. The unusual combination of two alto saxophones and two tenor saxophones gives the quartet a dense sound, actively working with harmony formation and interference.

The quartet plays original compositions as well as music by composers such as John Tchicai, Steve Lacy, Olivier Messiaen, and others. During 2024, the quartet collaborated with minimalist composer and sound artist Henrik Öhberg, known under the pseudonym Tvärvägen. Henrik has written new music for the quartet, playing with old classical forms such as canon and fugue in combination with a modern tonal language and acoustic interpretations of sampling techniques. Utilizing the saxophone's spatial mobility, the music explores the specific acoustics of the venue and provides audiences with an embracing and unique concert experience.

Camila Nebbia is a saxophonist, composer, improviser, visual artist and curator from Buenos Aires, now based in Berlin. Described by Jazz PT magazine as "an essential saxophonist of our time", she is an interdisciplinary artist who bases her practice on the creation and destruction of archival material, exploring concepts such as identity, migration and memory through her work.
