Two Generations Present Vocal Jazz with a New, Exciting, and Nordic Sound
Young, critically acclaimed crooner Emil Otto and multi-virtuoso Jacob Venndt, along with pianist Pojken Flensborg and drummer Peter Lund Paulsen, all share an undeniable love for the traditions and heritage of the Great American Songbook.
Original arrangements combining melodic ostinatos from Nordic music traditions, New Orleans second line swing, and even re-arranged compositions present a new and unique way to pass on the old American musical traditions to both a new generation and those who already know them.
Experience Irving Berlin's more or less forgotten classic "What'll I Do?" in a yearning harmonic universe that supports this sad story in its own way. This particular interpretation was in rotation on DR P8 Jazz for several months.
Gershwin's "Nice Work If You Can Get It" combines New Orleans second line and swing. Vincent Youman's legendary "Tea for Two" switches between time signatures, and tempos and features Jacob Venndt on chromatic harmonica in the traditional sectional part - a part that is also moved to the song's outro, ending the lyrics and story in an interesting new way. The more modern classic "You And The Night And The Music" adds Rhodes to the sounds and a more or less classical ostinato that takes you down a completely different path than you would normally expect from this composition.
With love and respect for The Great American Songbook, Emil Otto & The Fabulous Trio present a brand new unique take on these traditional melodies.
