Paal Nilssen-Love Gathers a Super Quartet

Drummer Paal Nilssen-Love has put together a long-awaited quartet under the name JAMBU, which will make its debut at Musikhuset Swinger 2025.

For some time now, Nilssen-Love has had the idea of linking up Ljungkvist and Tobias Delius. They are both brilliant musicians on tenor saxophone and Bb clarinet. They both have their roots in traditional jazz music, but also have a penchant for freer, modern jazz. Delius and Ljungkvist have a genuine respect for each other and the ability and willingness to challenge. 

The youngest member of the quartet is the energetic and powerful bassist Jon Rune Strøm, with whom Nilssen-Love has played for almost 15 years. Jon Rune and Paal are a musical unit like no other.  

All four members write music for JAMBU, and while it's bound to go in several directions, it will swing! JAMBU joins the ranks of legendary bands with two tenor saxophones, such as Johnny Griffin / Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Coleman Hawkins / Ben Webster, Sil Austin / Red Prysock, Sonny Rollis with John Coltrane or Hawkins. The list goes on.
